About

Welcome Gentlefolk to The Newcastle University Medieval Society!

The Newcastle University Medieval Society (NUMS) is the branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) at the University of Newcastle within the Barony of Mordenvale. We research and recreate elements of pre-17th century culture, focusing on the Medieval Period. We cover the scope of pretty much anything that people did before the turn of the 17th century that is considered safe, sane, and legal in today’s society.

We do this by putting on tournaments of martial prowess, lavish feasts of medieval delicacies, and numerous other activities to play around with the culture and industry of the Middle Ages. We adorn ourselves in the garb of the period, whether the glittering vestments of a courtly noble, the basic garb of the ancients, or anything in between. And between events, we research and learn about the various skills and crafts of the period to create a more awesome experience for us all.

Whether you’re looking for a group of people to dress up with and sing songs over a horn of mead around a campfire, or you wish to explore the historicity of a craft, there’s something for everyone.

You can find more info about the Events and Activities that we take part in here.

There is a wide variety of activities that we do. Click on the badges below to explore each of them. If there doesn’t seem like many or the pages seem empty, we’re still working to add more content for you.
